Extracurricular and enrichment activities at sixth form are activities that students can participate in outside of their subject courses. Enrichment activities can help students develop a sense of self, learn new skills, and challenge themselves. They can also help students develop transferrable skills that will prepare them for life after Sixth Form.
All Year 12 students are expected to complete 30 hours of volunteering over the course of the year.
The purpose of volunteering is to give students responsibility for supporting others, to develop communication skills, to forge a strong sense of community, and to give younger students some visible role models around school.
It also develops students time management skills, as they learn to balance your different commitments and build communication and leadership skills that are valued by employers and universities.
Some of the opportunities available include:
Immerse yourself in global experiences! As part of the Turing Scheme, our students have the potential to embark on fully funded international trips to exotic destinations like Thailand or Vietnam. Expanding horizons, make memories, and build lifelong friendships.
For the academic year 2024-2025, all students have the opportunity to visit Warwick University.
CERN trip July 4-6th 2024
Year 12 and Year 13 Physicists enjoyed a fantastic trip to CERN in July, led by Ms Hamnett, Mr Whiteley, and Mrs Merritt. They had a fascinating tour of CERN itself, and the incredible new interactive visitors centre, and also enjoyed boats across the lake, a cable car into the mountains, getting sprayed under the 130m high fountain Jet D’Eau, seeing the History of Science Museum, picnic in the park and much more. The students were an absolute credit to the school and the only suggestion for improvement they come up with was to make the trip longer.
Student feedback about trip highlights and best bits:
“I enjoyed everything, walking around (the city)— beautiful architecture, the green plains; going to the mountain — such a nice view and memories, swimming in the lake — refreshing and just right for that weather, visiting CERN — definitely the most interesting and unique place, our tour guides have explained the concepts very well. Eating delicious food!”
“Everything, it was very fun to be in another country and do stuff we could only do there such as the cable car and the giant fountain and it was amazing being able to see CERN”.
“A highlight was, asking difficult physics questions and getting decent answers!”
“I really liked how it was both enjoyable, educational and engaging”.
“Best school trip I have ever been on”.
