Welcome to Oxford Spires Academy! Our mission is to educate students to become knowledgeable, globally minded, compassionate, confident and kind. I am exceptionally proud to lead a team of ambitious and passionate staff who are committed to ensure our students achieve highly and are equipped to lead a fulfilled life.
First and foremost, this requires students to perform their very best in the national exams sat in Year 11 and 13. Qualifications are the currency of choice and opportunity, and we ensure our curriculums (what we teach) from Year 7 prepare all our students for academic success. We share this curriculum as widely as possible. Our bespoke Scholars Guides give students, parents and carers a detailed week by week overview of the critical knowledge being taught each week.
We refuse to allow any disadvantage of a student to be a barrier to achievement. We commit ourselves to supporting students to be the best they can be.
We make sure that we deliver exceptional examination performance for our students year on year. As parents and carers, we know you are ambitious for your children. We share in this ambition and will do what is needed to ensure this is realised. We hold ourselves accountable for our child’s achievements.
All of our students benefit from an academy site with excellent facilities and space to breathe and grow. A unique advantage compared to other Oxford City schools. We make our resources available to all students and invest heavily in each child. Students receive additional books, learning equipment and our bespoke Scholars Guides to keep, extracurricular activities, online learning packages and unparalleled enrichment experiences in addition to the standard curriculum.
It is our responsibility to prepare students for the demands of the modern world and stimulate a desire to shape it for the better. By the time they leave us, every student will have a clear and unique pathway to follow.
We will always seek a competitive advantage for our students. Our students will not only achieve highly, they develop excellent interpersonal skills and a confident understanding of new and emerging technologies. They leave school far ahead of their contemporaries, and we consider it our role to ensure this. From the first day in Year 7, our aim is the make sure we have mapped out their learning journey to maximise their success.
We insist that students work hard at home and we expect parents and carers to believe in the value of the taught curriculum at Oxford Spires. Teaching and learning is a science. We focus our lessons on ensuring our students read, practise and revisit prior learning. Over time, our students learn more, remember more, do more and achieve more. We use cumulative formative diagnostic assessments (in class and for homework) to ensure that students are consistently retrieving their knowledge of different components. The purpose of this is to ensure all knowledge is retained (gaps are identified and addressed promptly) and teachers’ planning is accurately informed.
Dedicated Year Team Leaders support the pastoral welfare of all students, help students understand the routines and expectations and can rapidly begin achieving academic excellence. Our behaviour policies are firm and we expect families to support our high standards of uniform, attendance, behaviour and work ethic. Parents and carers can track their child’s attendance, behaviour and achievements online via the 'My Child At School' app. Our values underpin our approach to ensuring all students develop the character traits, social skills and moral outlook necessary to thrive at school and beyond. With our tutor system and excellent pastoral care, all students are given the time and space to develop their true character, to excel, and to have the confidence and skills necessary to succeed, wherever they find themselves.
