Pupils can choose from a wide range of AS and A Level subjects to study over two years. Most pupils specialise in three subjects for the full A Level and sit national qualifications at the end of Year 13, we do over a four subject pathway for students with exceptional academic credentials at GCSE. Our Sixth Form teachers are specialist in their subjects and have the very highest academic qualifications. Our teachers plan challenging lessons that allow pupils to explore the subject matter in great depth and they provide bespoke resources such as lesson handouts, textbooks and revision guides to supplement the independent study of our pupils. Through expert teaching, guidance and support, our teachers equip pupils with skills necessary to succeed in life and ensure they achieve the highest levels in their exams.
Study takes place in a modern learning environment in the Sixth Form Learning Centre. Pupils benefit from having study areas for their exclusive use, equipped with learning facilities and resources to support their study and independent research in a professional environment. We also provide personalised academic interventions and encourage pupils to undertake their own independent academic research projects or to join the many societies on offer to extend their learning beyond the taught curriculum. In addition, pupils are given the opportunity to participate in many competitions such as the Biology and Physics Olympiad and the Cambridge and Oxford Essay Competition as well as undertake educational trips to extend their learning. All of these experiences help to develop our pupils into independent learners who are equipped with the skills to tackle the demands of further education.
To prepare our pupils for life beyond Sixth Form we have an expertly sequenced careers programme where pupils explore the wide variety of careers, university courses and degree apprenticeships that are available to them. Pupils use online platforms such as Unifrog to help them with their research and we also have a weekly newsletter that promotes exciting work experience opportunities and virtual talks for pupils to engage with young professionals from a range of contexts. This, combined with our specialist team of Sixth Form Pastoral Leaders and tutors, helps guide our pupils through their career development. Each pupil is given one-two-one assistance with their applications while being supported pastorally to ensure they make the best choices for their future.
